Twenty five years ago, in the search for better coffee, my father came upon a deserted farmland. It had once been known as Hacienda Guindaleza, one of the great coffee farms of the early nineteenth hundreds in Puerto Rico. But by then it had been lost to nature; abandoned for more than 80 years. Despite its state, he saw opportunity, knowing that the land held the potential to produce excellent coffee once more. Having inherited his passion for coffee, I (Alfonso Perez), together with my father (Jose Perez), decided it was time to finally start our project to rebuild the Hacienda Guindaleza. So we founded Isla Coffee to establish our core values and work ethic into building our very own coffee farm.
Today Isla Coffee is a small batch roastery that counts with its very own specialty coffee farm. At 3,600 ft of altitude and in between the three tallest peaks in Puerto Rico, lies the rebuilted Hacienda Guindaleza. A name that holds at heart everything we work for.
Terrafé is a product of our passion and commitment to produce authentic Puerto Rican specialty coffee.
